Then came Marquee Moon. 1977. Eleven minutes of guitar interplay on the title track alone — a song that builds and releases and builds again like nothing before or since. It was critically acclaimed and commercially ignored, which is exactly what happens to records that are ahead of their time. Forty-plus years later, it still sounds like the future.
