"Carl Perkins" Premium Unisex T-Shirt
Regular price $27.99He Wrote the Song. Elvis Got the Credit. Again.
December 19, 1955. Carl Perkins walked into Sun Studio in Memphis and recorded "Blue Suede Shoes." It hit #1 on the pop, country, and R&B charts simultaneously — the first record ever to do that. It was the biggest record Sun had ever released.
Then Elvis covered it. And that's the version everyone remembers.
Carl Perkins was one of the architects of rock and roll. His guitar style — a raw, percussive blend of country picking and blues rhythm — directly influenced George Harrison, who called him one of his biggest heroes. The Beatles recorded four of his songs. John Lennon said Perkins was the real thing. Keith Richards studied his licks. Eric Clapton cited him as a primary influence.
He never got the fame he deserved. He kept playing anyway, with the same ferocious joy he had the day he walked into Sun Studio. That's the mark of someone who did it for the right reasons.
This tee is for the people who know the name behind the song.
