Alongside guitarist Chris Stein, she built Blondie into the band that bridged the raw fury of punk with the irresistible pull of pop — and made it look effortless.

At CBGB they shared bills with Television, Talking Heads, Patti Smith, and the Ramones. They were all inventing something new in the same sweaty room, night after night. But Blondie had something the others didn't — a front woman who could stop a room cold just by walking into it.

By the late '70s and early '80s, Blondie were everywhere — disco, new wave, hip-hop, reggae, all filtered through Debbie Harry's singular cool. Rapture became the first rap song to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. They didn't just cross genres. They erased the lines between them.
